The 2022 Forge Prize
Congratulations to 2022 Forge Prize Winners Vincent Yee Foo Lai (Adjaye Associates) and Douglas Lee (University of California, Berkeley)!
They took home the $10,000 grand prize for a concept that would reinvigorate public housing in New York City and Harlem using steel prefabrication and modularization. Their design will be sensitive to existing communities with an emphasis on sustainability.
The team partnered with Rob Williams, PE, vice president of sales at AISC member fabricator Steel, LLC, to further develop the concept.
The Forge Prize, established by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) in 2018, recognizes visionary emerging architects for designs that embrace steel as a primary structural component and capitalize on steel’s ability to increase a project’s speed.
The Forge Prize is a unique opportunity to experiment with a conceptual design without limit to scope or complexity--the sky really is the limit here, and the industry is paying attention.
